The credentialed veterinary technicians of the AVTCP are dedicated to providing superior, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care to clients and patients. Members demonstrate expertise in a broad range of clinical disciplines within their species specialty, such as dentistry, nutrition, behavior, pharmacology, general and surgical nursing, anesthesia, neonatal and geriatric care, and many more aspects of veterinary care. We encourage education of both our clients in practice, and our fellow technicians in the field.

Meet our Council of Regents and Executive Body
Past President: Sarah Kolb, BAS, RVT, LAT, VTS Clinical Practice (Exotic Companion Animals) Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wisconsin. She earned her VTS with AVTCP in 2015.

President: Becky Vaughan earned her certification as a VTS in Anesthesia/Analgesia in 2008, and her VTS in Clinical Practice (canine/feline) in 2012. She currently works as an ER Veterinary Nurse at Veterinary Emergency Group in Lincoln Park, Chicago, and lives in the Chicago suburbs.

Veterinary Nurse Manager at The University of Queensland teaching hospitals. Rebecca oversees a diverse team in a 24/7 hospital setting. Additionally, she imparts her knowledge through teaching veterinary science courses including presentations at conferences, contributions to textbook chapters, and involvement in research in Australia and internationally. Rebecca actively promotes the recognition and utilization of nurses and technicians in Australia with the VNCA Queensland Division and CPD Committees.

Executive Secretary: Jody Nugent-Deal, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia/Analgesia), Clinical Practice (Exotic Companion Animal). Jody earned her VTS in Anesthesia and Analgesia in 2009. She is the Hospital Trainer for the large and small animal clinics at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, University of California Davis. Jody is a founding member of AVTCP, was part of the Organizing Committee, and has held a board position since inception.

Exotic Companion Animal Member at Large: Ashley McGaha, BAS, RVTg, VTS Clinical Practice (Exotic Companion Animal) Ashley received her bachelor's degree in veterinary technology in 2010 and has been the registered zoological medicine technician at the University of Georgia ever since. She received her specialty with AVTCP in December, 2019.

Small Animal (Feline) Member at Large: Jan Yaroslav RVT, VTS (Dentistry), Clinical Practice (Feline)
Jan has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since 1978. She has worked primarily in small animal practice at specialty, emergency and general practice for most of her career. She earned her VTS in Dentistry in 2008. Jan has worked at Chico Hospital for Cats (a gold standard Cat Friendly Practice) since 2010.

Production Medicine Member at Large: Karen Shuck LVT, VTS Clinical Practice (Production Medicine) earned her VTS with AVTCP in 2013 and is veterinary technician at the University of Nebraska -Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center near Clay Center, NE. She is passionate about her work and is a long standing member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.
